Growth, Metabolism and Reproduction in Mammals
Our major fields of research are molecular mechanisms of growth regulation and metabolism as well as biology and biotechnology of reproduction. Transgenic mouse models are used for the functional analysis of ligands of the EGF-receptor family. In addition, ENU induced mouse mutants with alterations in clinical-chemical and hematological parameters are characterized phenotypically and genetically to identify the causal mutations and to establish novel disease models. In the field of reproductive biology we are particularly interested in the developmental biology of preimplantation embryos and in mechanisms of embryo-maternal communication. In addition, somatic cell nuclear transfer is used to study mechanisms of cellular reprogramming and for the generation of genetically modified large animal models for biomedical research.
